5 Must-Do’s in Cozumel, Mexico

Hello, fellow travelers! If you’re planning a trip to Cozumel, Mexico, you’re in for a treat. This island paradise offers a plethora of activities that cater to both adventure seekers and those looking to relax. Cozumel has been a destination of ours a number of times, both directly and as stops on cruises. We love the island and all it has to offer. Here are some must-do activities to make your Cozumel visit unforgettable:

1. Dive into the Underwater Wonderland

Cozumel is renowned for its vibrant coral reefs and clear turquoise waters. Whether you’re an experienced diver or a snorkeling enthusiast, exploring the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System is a must. Popular spots include Palancar Reef and Columbia Reef, where you can encounter a variety of marine life, including colorful fish, sea turtles, and rays. We’ve done multiple scuba and snorkel experiences and have never been disappointed! Check out some of the top-rated places on TripAdvisor at the link below.

2. Explore San Miguel de Cozumel

The island’s largest city, San Miguel, is a charming place to wander. Stroll through its vibrant streets, visit local markets, and indulge in authentic Mexican cuisine at local eateries. We love eating at Senor Frogs! Not only is the food fantastic, it’s also an entertaining environment. Each time we’ve eaten at this location there has been music and dancing to add to the fun. The local shops and vendors offer multiple, unique items as well. Don’t forget to pick up some souvenirs to remember your trip!

3. Visit Punta Sur Eco Beach Park

Nature lovers shouldn’t miss Punta Sur, Cozumel’s largest ecological reserve. Here, you can explore the Celarain Lighthouse for panoramic views, observe crocodiles in their natural habitat, and relax on pristine beaches. The park also offers boat tours through mangroves, providing a closer look at the island’s diverse ecosystems. Barefoot Diving Center offers some great information as well as dive courses and trips to help you explore more. Visit their site at the link below.

4. Embark on a Jeep Adventure

For those seeking adventure, renting a jeep to explore the island is a fantastic option. Drive along the scenic coastal roads, visit hidden beaches, and discover lesser-known spots. We rented cars on a recent trip to Cozumel and drove around the entire island. Doing this on your own allows you to see Cozumel at your own pace and explore what you want to. There are great little bars, restaurants, and shops to stop at along the way. Some tours also offer guided experiences, combining off-road adventures with cultural stops. We loved visiting different beaches that had various offerings as well. The kids spent hours on this obstacle course.
